Hello March!
Now that we are experiencing a cool and rainy winter for the first time in years, we decided to offer 20% off our most popular treatments that do have some recovery downtime!
~~
20% off Peels
Peels can be varied in depth and penetration, but expect serious results from a TCA peel that will turn your skin dark and then peel intensely, revealing fresh new skin underneath. If you want a treatment with less peeling and downtime, try the Vi Peel or a Salicylic Acid peel.

20% off IPL
After an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, you'll want to stay out of the sun for a week as all your brown spots will turn darker during that time before they lightly slough off.

Pregnant? Breastfeeding? Busy mom?
Meet Julie, our Project Coordinator. She is a busy new mom, working two jobs and breastfeeding her little one.
Read on for her quick and baby-safe skin care regimen!

I am a new and nursing mom with a very busy work schedule but I still want to keep my skin looking smooth and well rested. The most important thing to me about my skin care regimen is that all of the products are safe for baby. My second concern is ease, as I barely have time to eat -- my regimen needs to be easy and speedy. I have 3 steps to my morning routine (4 if I decide to wear makeup) and only 2 to my nighttime routine.
Every morning, I wash my face with our Brightening Polish because the microbeads not only help me wake up, but they rejuvenate my skin, giving it a glow and making it incredibly soft. Next, I apply our Tinted Daily Defense (BB Cream) to even out my skin tone, provide antioxidants and protect me from sun damage with its high SPF of 50+. For moisture, I use our Fortified Moisturizer because it provides antioxidants and anti-aging properties but doesn’t leave me feeling heavy or greasy. There isn’t much need for makeup thanks to the coverage that the Tinted Daily Defense provides, however on days that I do decide to apply makeup, I use the Avene Tinted Compact. It is a 100% mineral sunscreen in a cream to powder formula that provides full blemish coverage, antioxidants and SPF 50. It is even water resistant!
I keep my nighttime routine very simple because by the end of the day I am beat -- I'm sure all of you moms out there can relate! At night, all I do is cleanse my face and moisturize. My nighttime cleanser is the Elta MD Cleanser which seconds as a makeup remover -- killing two birds with one stone! Yes, it even takes off eye makeup! It foams up very well which makes it easy to spread around and it gets deep into my pores without drying me out. Next, I use the Fortified Moisturizer again because I love it so much! Then it’s off to bed to try and get some sleep before the baby wakes up for a nighttime feeding!
Not only is my regimen quick and the products safe for baby, but it provides antioxidants, moisture, and UV protection -- the foundation to healthy and youthful looking skin.

How to Relieve Itchy Skin

Itchy skin is common in the winter, and the number one cause of itchy skin this time of year is dry skin.
There are many reasons for itchy skin. It could be the result of a skin condition, such as eczema, shingles, hives, or psoriasis, or it could be a sign of a contagious disease, like scabies or ringworm.
To help soothe itchy skin, dermatologists recommend the following tips:
- Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to the skin that itches. Do this for about five to 10 minutes or until the itch subsides.
- Take an oatmeal bath. This can be very soothing, especially for blisters or oozing skin due to chickenpox, hives, poison ivy or sunburn.
- Moisturize your skin. Always choose a moisturizer free of additives, fragrances, and perfumes.
- Apply topical anesthetics that contain pramoxine.
- Apply cooling agents, such as menthol or calamine. You could also place your moisturizer in the refrigerator to help achieve this cooling effect.
While treating your skin, avoid scratching, as this will further irritate your skin and could increase your risk for a skin infection. It’s also a good idea to take steps to help prevent your skin from itching.
To help prevent itching, dermatologists recommend the following tips:
- Bathe with lukewarm – not hot – water. Try to limit your bath or shower to just 10 minutes.
- Always use “fragrance-free” lotions, soaps and detergents to minimize irritation. Be wary of products labeled “unscented,” as they might still have chemicals that can irritate your skin.
- Apply topical medications prescribed by your dermatologist before moisturizing. Then, apply your moisturizer to all areas of your skin, including areas treated with medication.
- Wear loose-fitting, cotton clothes. Wool and other rough-feeling fabrics can irritate your skin, causing intense itching.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes. Maintain a relatively cool, neutral humidity environment in your house. Use a humidifier during winter if you are prone to dry skin and eczema.
- Reduce stress, as stress can make your itch worse.
If your itch does not go away with home treatment, see us for help. Some people have more than one reason to scratch, and a dermatologist can work with you to find the cause and relieve your itching.

FDA approves Eucrisa for eczema

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved Eucrisa (crisaborole) ointment to treat mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) in patients two years of age and older.
Atopic dermatitis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, is often referred to as "eczema," which is a general term for the several types of inflammation of the skin. Atopic dermatitis is the most common of the many types of eczema and onset typically begins in childhood and can last through adulthood. The cause of atopic dermatitis is a combination of genetic, immune and environmental factors. In atopic dermatitis, the skin develops red, scaly and crusted patches, which are extremely itchy. Scratching leads to swelling, cracking, and finally, coarsening and thickening of the skin.
This medication is a major, new advance as it does not contain steroids -- it is non-cortisone based. Dermatologists worry about skin thinning with overuse of cortisone creams. Therefore, this medication can be used first line, on an ongoing basis, without any safety concerns.
Eucrisa, applied topically twice daily, is a phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE-4) inhibitor, although its specific mechanism of action in atopic dermatitis is not known.
The safety and efficacy of Eucrisa were established in two placebo-controlled trials with a total of 1,522 participants ranging in age from two years of age to 79 years of age, with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis. Overall, participants receiving Eucrisa achieved greater response with clear or almost clear skin after 28 days of treatment.
If you have been suffering from chronic eczema, and especially if you are concerned about the effects of cortisone on your skin, schedule a consultation to see if Eucrisa is right for you.
